Road tripping to the Rockies this Summer

Itching to hit the road this summer and check out the scenic beauty that is part of the Rockies but lives in our own state? Then you need to check out Mesa Verde National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

Rocky Mountain National Parkhosts 30 miles of scenic roadways that extends above 11,000 feet. Look for big horned sheep, pica, and elk throughout your journey. Estes Park is near one of the park entrances and you will find good fun and plenty of tourist shopping spots. Trail Ridge Road is a high spot and a must see if you go during the open months. So much to see and plenty of hiking and picnic spots depending on what makes you happy!

Mesa Verde National Parkis the place to go if you have an interest in archaeological wonders and incredible scenery. You could easily spend a couple of days simply exploring the park. You will find the cliff villages that are unique to the region and that represent more than 700 years of history.

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Parkhas unique landscape that was formed by the slow action of water running through the crystalline rock. Two million years in the making, you will find some of the steepest and craggiest cliffs and spires in North America. There are a variety of ecosystems to explore in the park!

The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preservehas both unique and spectacular landscape with wind-shaped dunes that abut the mountains. You can bring your horse with you for a ride and if you look closely, you might even see the local wild mustang herd that roams the area. This is also a great area for bird lovers.
