Creating resolutions on how to become a better driver

Creating resolutions on how to become a better driver

As we head into the new year, it’s a great time to assess many things about our lives. One area we often overlook but that has great safety implications is how we drive. Take some time to create a few New Year’s resolutions that can not only keep you safe but reduce your stress levels as well.  Slow down! It’s not worth saving a few minutes.  Don’t speed through yellow lights and never run red lights Come to a complete stop at stop signs Use your turn signal!  Account for blind spots Don’t eat while driving Stay on top of preventive maintenance If you have to have your phone nearby (uber, lyft, etc.) have it securely mounted Most cars now have bluetooth capability so your phone can be put away and still be answered Set your GPS coordinates/navigation route before pulling out of the driveway Do not tailgate Stay in your lane Do not drive with headphones/ear pods on Make sure your headlights are on before getting on the road ALW ... read more

How to Drive During the Winter

Following the old adage, if the weather is bad, stay home if you are able.  Before heading out, check the weather. If it looks bad out there, delay your trip if possible. Plan to refill when your tank reaches ½ full. When accelerating or decelerating, do it slowly. While applying the gas, slow is best to regain traction and avoid skids, take your time to slow down for a stoplight, it takes longer to slow down on slippery or icy roads. Try to increase your stopping distance by 5 or 6 seconds; it may just give you the necessary margin of safety when you need to stop unexpectedly. It's always best to take your time to slow down for a red light and don't ... read more
