When you take the time to get everyone together to plan your upcoming trip, it gives you the opportunity for buy in so no one can say they were left out. It also gets everyone excited about the adventure you’ll take together. Pull out a map and make sure everyone has a drink in hand that makes them happy. Realistic driving schedule
Don’t try to power through a long trip with small children or pets. Even if it’s just you, think about stops for food and bathroom. Never a bad idea to just stop for a good stretch or a cup of coffee. Consider making it even more fun with stops along the way. Short hikes or museums can help break up a long trip and make it more manageable. It’s always good to add  an extra adventure! 
 
Snacks Snacks Snacks
Road trip food always makes the journey more fun. Make sure you have everyone’s favorite snack. The day before you leave you can even make it a fun time by having everyone pack their own favorite and that way no one is left out and it’s up to them to bring it along. Consider how messy of a snack you are willing to deal with and make sure to bring wipes to help clean up any messes. 
 
Pack light
When you pack light, it’s less for you to have to worry about keeping up with and it also makes for more legroom. That makes everyone happy! Plan ahead to maximize how you load up the car too. Consider a cargo rack if you don’t have ample trunk space. 
 
Set screen time limits
Screen time can help the time go by, but it can also detract from family time. Establish the limits before heading out so everyone is in agreement. That leaves less room for manipulation. 
 
Play games
